Carters Beach
Carters Beach is simply one of the most beautiful beaches in Nova Scotia. It is essentially three beaches in one, with three crescent areas one after another. All three are made up of soft white sand. The kids love walking the beach in search of sand dollars as much as they enjoy playing in the water.
The parking area for this beach is not large so it can appear crowded even when the beaches are not.
There are no change areas or washrooms at Carters Beach.

It is like a beach in the Caribbean. The sand is soft and the water is so clear. Absolutely beautiful. We were able to do a lot of snorkeling .We were a little disappointed with the very limited parking. You can pay to park in people’s front yards. There are only 2 washroom (portapotties) for probably 3-400 people along the beach. Not a garbage can to be found. The beach is very clean and it appears people are respecting it. Some have walked off the beach and dumped there garbage on the ground next to the portapotties.
It is very disappointing that here in N.S. we probably have one of the nicest beaches in Canada but it dies requires a little TLC from the government.
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS JEWEL OF A BEACH. A MUST VISIT REALLY.

Beautiful beach but should have at least 1 portable toilet!
Beach is beautiful. Yes a hidden Gem indeed. Very little parking, so yes vehicles are parked all over the road and very little respect for others walking in and out, as the vehicles take up a lot of the road space.So your probably better off parking a distance away and walking in. It would be nice to know which area of the province is responsible for the portable toilets, as they are not maintained on a regular basis. The garbage cans are completely full and there is garbage all around the base of the can. If people would learn to take their garbage with them when they leave (as we do) this would be great for the environment. Perhaps a few garbage cans on the beach would be helpful. As more people find out about this beach the issues will just get worse with time. I don’t mind seeing a few dogs on the beach… ..but…I don’t think they should be allowed to run free. As we have seen by more than half of the dog owners allow dogs off the leash. A few people were being inconvenienced by the dogs. One lady said she was allergic to animals and had to leave the beach because a dog was going around her area. Thats a shame. Perhaps there could be a designated area for animals. I mean really who wants to go to the beach for the day and hear some hollering and screaming at there pet all day long. Wheres the peace and tranquility in that.

Amazing spot. Please stop bringing trash here people! We do not need more infrastructure here, there are plenty of other beaches in NS with change areas and washrooms. More signage warning of sensitive ecosystems is needed. Love this place, lets preserve the biodiversity and beauty for years to come!
Another beautiful beach in the area is Louis head Beach. Off exit 23 on West Sable road. Camp ground nearby and porta potty on site. Beautiful clear water and white sands.
Are dogs allowed on the beaches ?
Any Camping nearby?
They just added a Porta-Potty today, the Porta-Potty is Handicap Accessible and Has room to change a baby
Can you camp on this beach? Or is there any places close by to camp
We went to this beach on Sunday and we couldn’t believe the cars parked on the side of the road….jam packed, didn’t notice any no parking signs and we didn’t get a ticket. There were lots of dogs at this beach. Water was chilly but that didn’t stop the kids from going in. I got some nasty horsefly bites, but it was so worth it. Absolutely stunning beach.
So if there is no parking near the beach, where do you park and where are the nearest bathrooms?? Looking to go next week while on vacation. Thanks
Can we bring dogs to this beach?
No Parking signs were added to both sides of the road today and cars were ticketed. Does anyone know which government department is in charge of this? It certainly doesn’t help tourism, that’s for sure, and local residents can’t access the beach on a hot day like today. Not impressed!
Could anyone tell me how far washrooms are?
And any recommendations on best time of day to go?

Have visited t his beach for the past 45 years! I go back several times every summer. Makes me think of the Caribbean! SOOO beautiful!
Hands down the best beach in Nova Scotia. Crystal clear water, and beautiful white sand. Feels like a peace of paradise.

Is Carter’s beach safe for swimming.How far away would a washroom be..like a restaurant etc.looks beautiful..
We moved to Port Mouton in 1990 from Ontario…and live 1 kilometer from Carters Beach
No matter if it isin Spring Summer Fall or Winter..Carters beach Is a Wonderous Place. A little piece of God’s beautiful Creation….that u can never forget.

Was there in June of 2013, it was 33° and the water was crystal clear, looks like a Florida beach!!
Went their on August 2014. Better than any beach I have ever been in Florida. This beach is well worth the visit. It is stunning! Can’t wait to go back next year…wish I lived closer. Didn’t find any sand dollars but the sand and water was gorgeous.
Looks like paradise, but the water was freezing even though we had been in 20 degree water just a few days before at Rissers. There were numerous jellyfish below the surface and many horseflies above the surface. I’m willing to give it another chance though!
OMG, this beach is amazing, I have never been on a beach in nova Scotia that can even compare, a hidden treasure. is is off the beaten track and that is why is is so beautiful, a must…

Carter’s beach is one of the best beaches. No doubts. Drawback is that there are no rest rooms or change areas.
